SMART Recovery – The Evidence – Conference for Commissioners and Service Managers – 23 January 2018

UK SMART Recovery is delighted to announce a one-day conference in association with London South Bank University.

During the event we will examine the latest research findings and evaluate SMART Recovery’s place within the mutual aid landscape.

Suitable for service commissioners, service managers, and those within the criminal justice settings, who would like to increase their knowledge of the SMART Recovery Programme, including evidence of its effectiveness and plans for its continuing development.

Lunch and networking opportunity provided.

Presentations include: –

Professor Marcantonio Spada, PhD, – ‘SMART Recovery – the Evidence’

Marcantonio is a Professor of Psychology in the School of Applied Sciences at London South Bank University where he is the Head of the Division of Psychology and Deputy Lead of the Centre for Addictive Behaviours Research. An expert in cognitive behaviour therapy for addictive behaviours, he has authored over 100 scientific journal articles and three books. He is also the Editor-in-Chief of the leading international addictions journal Addictive Behaviors and a Director of UK SMART Recovery and SMART Recovery International.

Professor Robin Davidson – ‘The Pitfalls of Commissioning Addiction Services’

Robin is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and has published widely in Addictions and Health Psychology.  Robin left the Leeds Addiction Unit to become Head of Clinical Psychology Services for the Northern Health and Social Board in Northern Ireland. In 1997 he became Director of Psychological Services in the Belfast City Hospital Trust

He has honorary appointments with Queens University Belfast, The University of Ulster and London South Bank University. Until recently he was Chair of GAIN (the NI equivalent of NICE) and Alcohol Research UK. He is currently Chair of UK Smart Recovery.

He left the NHS several years ago and has a flourishing UK private practice, primarily providing psychological assessments for the criminal and family courts.
