RECOVERY MOVIE MEET-UPs
Use movies about addiction & recovery in group sessions to generate powerful moments that can lead to lasting therapeutic results
Now Available in the U.K. in partnership with UK SMART Recovery
A dynamic and simple meeting format proven to generate increased participant engagement & interaction, induce emotional arousal, and foster deep self-reevaluation
How it works…
A group watches a movie together relevant to addiction and recovery or has an addiction theme or messages running through it.
Each member has their own Recovery Movie Meetups Workbooks exercises for the movie that is being screened and discussed.
The group discusses the movie using the workbook exercise and whilst doing so completes various questionnaries in it.
In doing so, they share stories, give advice/guidance from their own lived experience, provide support and mutual aid without even realising it. The group will be inspired by the movie and stories that come from the group. The group then picks another movie to watch next time.
Great for residential treatment settings, IOPs (Intensive OutPatient), Sober/Recovery Homes, Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (LEROs) and Hubs, Prisons, Recovery Cafes, Universities & Colleges, Veteran Residences.
Using movies as therapy can be easily woven into a weekly programme/timetable to provide variety creativity and a social environment for mutual aid.
