North East Activities
It’s been another busy week for our North East & Yorkshire Community Coordinator, Jeni Langley. She attended a Recovery Event at HMP Northumberland on Tuesday morning, where she was able to raise awareness of the SMART meetings happening on site and promote the SMART Recovery program. She was then very privileged to be invited along to the premiere of a documentary called ‘The Red Bench Guy’, featuring the founder of the incredible suicide-prevention initiative called ‘The Red Bench Project’, Wayne ‘Rambo’ Groves. As well as a huge number of local charities/organisations, the South Tyneside Mayor and Mayoress also were in attendance.
Although the project began in South Tyneside, there is now nationwide interest and even enquiries from as far away as Canada, the USA, Italy and Malta! You can find out more about this amazing project on the Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/TheRedBenchProject
On Wednesday, Jeni attended a staff-awareness morning at Jarrow Job Centre with a range of other local services and charities. The goal was to enable the staff to effectively signpost their clients to other services that may be able to help them with other areas of their lives and overcome barriers to getting into work.
