Recovery Movie Meet Ups

We are delighted to invite you to join us for an insightful 1-hour webinar that questions the traditional belief that movies and TV shows contribute to rising and ongoing substance use. Now, it appears the opposite may be true.

In this session, SMART Recovery Facilitator and star of the “Tips & Tools for Recovery That Works” YouTube video series, Ted Perkins—an accomplished Hollywood writer and producer—will explore how the entertainment industry is “cleaning up its act” by producing thoughtful films on addiction and recovery.

These new narratives help challenge stigmas, reveal the complexities of addiction, and emphasise that successful recovery is achievable for anyone, anywhere, and under any circumstance.

To leverage the power of film to help individuals heal, Perkins founded RECOVERY MOVIE MEET-UPs, an innovative new mutual support meeting format being used successfully across the U.S. and Canada that is now available in the UK through a partnership with UK SMART Recovery! You can find out more here: https://smartrecovery.org.uk/movie-meet-ups/

The webinar will also feature an introduction from SMART Recovery Co-Founder Dr. Tom Horvath, who will share his clinical perspective on how movies, when used in mutual aid groups, can be powerful tools for self-re-evaluation and commitment to personal change.
