Important safeguarding update to all partner agreements. All facilitators please may we draw your attention to the following new instruction which has been inserted into all partners agreements.
Safeguarding recommendation related to the Children and Yong Persons Act 1933 :
A Schedule one offender is a person convicted of one or more of the crimes listed in the Children and Yong Persons Act 1933. The act can be found in full here:
Schedule One offenders are a known risk to children, they have various restrictions placed on them and are governed and monitored by Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
These restrictions mean that they should never be signposted/referred to any open peer led SMART Recovery meeting either delivered either face to face or online.
Persons who are known Schedule One offenders should only access SMART meetings led by or offered by a professional service. For example a drug and alcohol service, a mental health service, a probation service or a criminal justice community team. They should also not be signposted or referred to SMART meetings delivered in countries other than the UK.
Partners of UK SMART Recovery are responsible for notifying such individuals of these restrictions and signpost them to a suitable mutual aid recovery group accordingly.
